In Phase 1 of the project (“the Pilot Phase,” February–June 2011), a team consisting of a dozen UW–Madison faculty and staff worked with NU administrators to develop recommendations for an undergraduate liberal arts curriculum and faculty hiring protocols in NU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), a collection for the library, and learning support services. In August 2011, 500 Kazakhstani students began their undergraduate studies at NU.
Over the course of Phase 2 of the project (October 2011–March 2012), the UW–Madison team developed recommendations to help SHSS refine its curriculum and hiring plans. It also worked with the NU administration to address critical needs in areas such as registrar and admissions procedures, quality assurance and assessment, and co-curricular activities.
