UW–Madison-Nazarbayev University Graduate School Mentoring Program (November 2014)

In November 2014, six UW–Madison PhD candidates traveled to Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, to serve as “graduate student mentors” to NU undergraduates from the Schools of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) and Science and Technology (SST) who were applying to US graduate school programs. The six participating mentors were: Shane Auerbach (Economics), Fatima Sartbay (Anthropology), Mark Toukan (Political Science), Shoaib Altaf (Computer Sciences), Erica Macke (Biology/Genetics), and Julia Wildt (Chemistry). UW–Madison developed this graduate school mentorship program in coordination with the NU Career and Advising Center, the NU Departments of Student Affairs and International Cooperation, SHSS, and SST.
